How our social enterprise works.
Lots of our customers and people from around the community ask us how our social enterprise works, why we do it, and other good questions. We've put together this little piece of prose to answer what you might be wondering. Being transparent matters to us.
Why we do this.
Some people have asked us why we don't just make really good burgers for the people around us? Why give back as well?
The short answer, is that:
We're trying to do better.
We're trying to help create a space that's a little bit better than how we found it. We give back so that we get to live in a nicer, more helpful, burger-shaped community.
It also helps us do what we love.
Community Burgers is run by a small team of hospitality lovers. We love welcoming people into a cool space so they can eat and drink nice things while they share laughs and stories around the table. We honestly think it's the best job in the world.
If our community chooses to eat a burger with us because it will help the people around them, then we should have enough to keep us employed, doing and sharing the thing we love most with our community. Thank you for helping us.
How much we can raise.
There is no fixed amount attached to every burger. Each month is different, because the costs of running a restaurant are different too.
First, we pay the people and businesses that make Community Burgers possible: our team, local suppliers, rent, tax, power, ingredients and the everyday costs of keeping the doors open. The money left over is what we put toward helping a person, project or local cause.
As of mid-2026, we are usually able to raise between $600 and $1,460 each month for local causes, depending on how the restaurant performs.
We're only little and our journey is hopefully only just getting started. At the moment, the amounts we can raise are modest but we have aspirations to be able to raise even more as we grow and find our place in the community.
A few questions.
Are you a charity or not-for-profit?
No. Community Burgers is a for-profit business with a social purpose. We trade as a restaurant, pay our staff and suppliers, and use available profit to help people and causes in our community. We always leave a bit in the business itself to ensure its sustainability and growth.
Does every burger directly fund a cause?
Not as a fixed dollar amount. Your order supports the whole restaurant, which is what creates the capacity to give back when we can. The overall percentage of sales that goes to local causes varies depending on the restaurant's performance each month.
How do you choose who becomes a community cause?
We do not have a fixed shortlist. Every few weeks, we pick a cause at random from the ideas shared with us, then make a few simple checks: there is a tangible need, there is a story to be told, and it is important to people in our community. If it feels like we can make a meaningful difference, we run with it.
How can I help Community Burgers grow and succeed?
Come and try us for lunch, dinner or drinks with friends. Bring people along, tell someone about us, and come back when you feel like a good burger. Leaving a review or sharing honest feedback helps too. Every visit helps us keep doing what we love, look after our team and create more room to give back to the community.
Can I suggest someone who could use a hand?
Absolutely. Let us know about a person, group or project in the community. We cannot promise every request, but we genuinely want to hear about them.
